Americans often debate military spending, social programs, and economic policies, but there’s one major budgetary issue that gets little attention: the staggering cost of servicing the national debt. As of now, the U.S. national debt exceeds $36 trillion. To put that into perspective, paying off just one trillion dollars at a rate of one dollar per second would take approximately 31,688 years. At this rate, eliminating the full national debt would take over 1.1 million years—assuming no additional debt accrues.

The Real Budget Crisis: Interest on the National Debt
While the media frequently highlights military expenditures, the cost of interest on the national debt has quietly surpassed even the defense budget. This means that before a single dollar is spent on national security, healthcare, or infrastructure, taxpayers are on the hook for an enormous financial burden—just to keep the debt from spiraling further out of control.

This raises an urgent question: Why do so many focus on military spending while ignoring the even larger problem of interest payments on the debt? It’s a conversation long overdue, as reckless government spending threatens to bankrupt the nation.
Government Growth: Beyond the Consent of the Governed
Former President Ronald Reagan famously stated in his 1981 inaugural address: “Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.”
Decades later, those words ring truer than ever. Many Americans, particularly during the COVID-19 lockdowns, witnessed firsthand a government exercising power and control in ways that felt unprecedented. Some argue this was a glimpse of the totalitarianism that leftist ideologies have sought to implement for decades. Government officials, having tasted unchecked authority, now find it difficult to relinquish that control.
The Trump Effect: A Consequential Presidency
Like him or not, President Donald Trump has proven to be one of the most consequential leaders of our time. Much like Reagan, he has disrupted the status quo, exposing government waste and inefficiency. His efforts to eliminate fraud and unnecessary spending in federal programs are a direct challenge to the bureaucratic machine that has flourished for decades.
This is not a matter of opposing social programs, but rather of eliminating abuse within them. Government waste has existed for generations, but it expanded dramatically under the Obama administration, which introduced policies that moved the U.S. toward a more socialist economic model. The push to transform America from a capitalist to a socialist state has been well-documented, including in The Naked Communist (1958), which outlined the long-term goals of communism—many of which seem eerily familiar today.
Foreign Influence and Economic Warfare
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has heavily invested in American media, social media, land, and political influence. This infiltration aligns with long-established communist objectives, some of which were entered into the congressional record as “The 45 Goals of Communism.” The disinformation campaign labeling Trump as a threat to democracy serves only to obscure the reality: It is not Trump’s policies, but rather the unchecked expansion of government, that erodes democratic principles.
As Elon Musk recently pointed out, the U.S. has shifted from a democracy to a bureaucracy, where unelected officials wield immense power with little oversight. This should concern every American, regardless of political affiliation.
Fair Trade and Fiscal Responsibility
On the economic front, Trump has made strides in balancing trade tariffs, countering unfair practices by foreign nations. While his initial rhetoric on tariffs was aggressive, his administration ultimately pushed for a reciprocal trade policy: “We will match the tariffs you have on our goods.” This approach seeks to create true fairness in international trade.
But trade policy alone will not save the U.S. economy. The nation’s financial stability depends on cutting spending before it’s too late. If the government continues on its current path, bankruptcy is inevitable. Any responsible budget review must begin by scrutinizing every dollar spent.
Exposing Government Waste: A Call for Transparency
Consider the infamous $1,200 toilet seats purchased by the government, or the “hush money fund” used by Congress to quietly settle sexual harassment allegations. These are just the tip of the iceberg. Why is there so little transparency on where taxpayer money is going? Why are efforts to audit the IRS met with resistance? The IRS, which now has an enforcement arm equipped with SWAT teams and armored vehicles, should focus on providing a service to taxpayers—not intimidating them.
The root cause of America’s economic instability is government spending. The solution is simple: cut unnecessary expenditures. But to do that, we must first acknowledge the problem and demand accountability from those in power.
A Wake-Up Call for All Americans
Americans must take a step back and recognize the fiscal reality facing our nation. The government works for the people—not the other way around. It is time to scrutinize every dollar spent, demand transparency, and resist the expansion of an unchecked bureaucracy.
If we fail to act, the consequences will be dire. The debt will continue to grow, interest payments will consume even more of our national budget, and the American economy will inch closer to collapse. Now is the time for Americans to demand responsible governance, fiscal restraint, and a return to the principles upon which this country was founded.
