On the anniversary of 9/11, a rocket exploded near the US Embasy in Afghanistan. As reported by NBC News, "A rocket exploded at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan just minutes into Wednesday, the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the United States, but officials at the compound later declared an all-clear and reported no injuries."
"We can confirm there was an explosion near the U.S. Embassy in Kabul," a State Department official said. "U.S. [diplomatic] mission personnel were not directly impacted by this explosion."
It was the first major attack in the Afghan capital since president Trump called off talks with the Taliban. President Trump has said, the death of a US service member in one of those blasts as the reason why he now calls the US-Taliban talks "dead."
The September 11 attacks are a sensitive issue in Afghanistan because it was those attacks on American soil that lead to the 18 year long war in the country.
