Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, socialist from New York released her "Green New Deal" on February 7th. Her Green New Deal has earned the endorsement of nearly every 2020 democratic front runner for president.
In her overview of the Green New Deal, "The Green New Deal resolution a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and create economic prosperity for all."
This begs the question, on how it will create economic prosperity for all? Promised in the Green New Deal are the following bullet points, although some of the wording has been pulled from the original document:
-A job with a family-sustaining wage, family and medical leave, vacations, and retirement security.
-High-quality education, including higher education and trade schools Clean air and water and access to nature
-Healthy food
-High-quality health care
-Safe, affordable, adequate housing
-Economic environment free of monopolies,
-Economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work.
While her list appears to be aspirational, with all the talking points of someone who wants to live in a world where there is no poverty, and no green house gas emissions, it still begs the question, 'How will her virtuous plan benefit Americans by creating economic prosperity for all?'
Most importantly, how will the United States pay for this Green New Deal? Ocasia-Cortez is advocating for the use of quantitative easing, an unconventional monetary policy in which a central bank purchases government securities or other securities from the market in order to lower interest rates and increase the money supply. Skeptics of quantitative easing agree that it will decrease the value of American currency. Devaluation of currency is a common occurrence in Socialist countries its end results are currently being played out in Venezuela.
The entire point of the Green New Deal, appears to be to utilize government funds to create government jobs, by eliminating some of the most prosperous industries in America, creating a vacuum of opportunity for other countries to prosper and adapt advanced technologies while America is occupied spending all its money developing "Green" technology. What do you think of the "Green New Deal?" We want your opinion. Will it make America prosperous by creating new industry? Or is it merely a guise under which a radical faction of the Democrat party wishes to implement Socialism in America?
What do you think of the "Green New Deal?" We want your opinion. Will it make America prosperous by creating new industry? Or is it just bunk?
