WASHINGTON - New revelations from the House Subcommittee on Oversight shed light on previously undisclosed communications between Liz Cheney, Vice-Chair of the January 6 Select Committee, and key witness Cassidy Hutchinson during a crucial period of the investigation in 2022.
In the months leading up to Hutchinson's explosive testimony, Cheney communicated with her, both directly and through Alyssa Farah Griffin, while Hutchinson was still represented by her attorney, Stefan Passantino. Records show that Cheney bypassed Hutchinson’s legal counsel, raising ethical questions about her involvement in shaping Hutchinson’s testimony.
Hutchinson, a former Trump aide, had already participated in two transcribed interviews with the Select Committee. However, in April 2022, she reached out to Farah Griffin, a former White House colleague. The two met in Georgetown, where Hutchinson shared that she had additional information for the Select Committee, including claims that President Trump allegedly supported chants of "Hang Mike Pence" during the Capitol riot.
Through text messages obtained by the Subcommittee, it’s clear that Cheney, despite knowing Hutchinson was still under legal representation, encouraged direct communication. She also provided Hutchinson with new pro bono attorneys, facilitating further interviews, which included Hutchinson’s now-controversial claims about Trump’s behavior on January 6.
Hutchinson’s third interview with the Select Committee, conducted without her initial attorney’s knowledge, marked a significant shift in her testimony. Despite contradicting prior accounts, the Select Committee promoted Hutchinson’s sensational narrative, while ignoring evidence that refuted it.
These communications raise serious ethical questions about the integrity of the Select Committee’s investigation and Cheney's role in shaping key testimony used to implicate President Trump.
