Richard Blumenthal, one of the wealthiest members of Congress gave accolades to the Connecticut People’s World Committee, an open Communist Party affiliate. Speaking at the event he claimed he was "excited and honored" to speak at the awards ceremony as they celebrated their 102 anniversary of the Communist Party USA.
